Our Program

Why Connect

The YMG Experience

The YMG Experience

Many of our youth are suffering from traumatic experiences which have created some emotional barriers. It is extremely important to be connected with a community that understands the challenges and how to safely move forward through the journey of life. Today youth must have outlets that allow them to express their emotions, thoughts, and feelings in the safest communities possible.  YMG provides that safe space that encourages a creative and fun experience regardless of personal challenges or issues.

YMG also creates the opportunity for youth from different races, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to engage together in the spirit of music and creativity.  Youth will also engage with industry professionals who's passions are aligned with youth  development that could potentially lead to professional opportunities.

We have a mobile studio program where we bring professional studio equipment to facilities to engage youth in music production, music business, and music therapy.  Youth will learn music production techniques on industry standard equipment and software. Youth will operate hardware, production software, learn bpm, tempo, counting bars, get familiar with sounds, make beats, structuring songs, studio sessions, record vocals, mixing, and create an original song.  Youth will learn music business strategies including “who’s the team?”, copyrighting, timelines, marketing, and content creation.  Youth will also engage in character building  sessions to further encourage personal development.  Youth will have the opportunity to showcase their original composition at the YMG Awards Party.  We also direct and shoot music videos for youth.

Youth will also have the opportunity to listen and present their favorite songs and/or artist as a means of therapy as well.

Music is Therapy

Who Should Connect

Who Should Connect

Music production as music therapy such as creating beats, recording vocals, or mixing tracks offers unique therapeutic benefits beyond just listening or playing an instrument.

Key importance:

1. Empowerment & agency – Clients control technology (DAWs, synthesizers, samplers), allowing them to shape sounds and express emotions non-verbally, which is especially valuable for those with verbal communication challenges.

2. Emotional regulation – The process of arranging, editing, and refining music provides a safe outlet for processing anger, anxiety, or trauma, while the structure of production can reduce overwhelm.

3. Cognitive & motor skill development – Sequencing, layering, and editing enhance executive function (planning, attention), while using faders, pads, and knobs improves fine motor coordination.

4. Accessibility – Adaptive tools (e.g., eye-gaze controlled software, large-button MIDI controllers) enable people with severe physical disabilities to participate creatively.

5. Tangible achievement – Completing a track offers immediate, shareable feedback, boosting self-esteem and providing a concrete record of progress.

6. Social connection – Collaborative production in group therapy fosters turn-taking, listening, and co-regulation.

In short, music production transforms passive listening into active creation, leveraging modern technology to support mental health, rehabilitation, and personal growth across diverse populations.

Youth locked in on exploring sounds

Making beats can be an amazing individual journey where it's you, your creative ideas, and your DAW working together to make something beautiful.  Making beats is also extremely effective therapy using your creative ideas to communicate feelings and emotions.
